Live your life!

Last year, I asked my host sister about her future. She was a senior in high school. I asked her, “What are you going to do after high school?”

She said,” I don’t know yet, I might go to college in another state, maybe in Wyoming”

“Why?”

“Because there is a statistic major, I want to take that”

“Oh okay”

“Why do you want to study statistic?”

“Because I’m good at math and I want to have a career in statistic.”

Lucky her. She knew what she wants. She even knew the detail in her plan. She’s smart and she knew what she want. Lucky.

Back to Indonesia. I met my friend. I asked her, “What are you going to do after high school?”

“Of course college!”

Some people out of this country, probably, some of them will say that they will work after high school or go to army.

“What are you going to study?” I asked again.

“I don’t know yet, all I know is I want to go to XXX (she mentioned one institute)”

“Oh I see. When I was little I want to be a scientist. But, now I don’t know what I want. What do you want to do?”

“I don’t know. But I want to go to that Institute”

“Why?”

“Because it’s a good school”

“Oh really? You even don’t know what you want to do! How could you be sure that you’re going to be good or success?”

“Well….”

I was confused that time. How could people be so sure about something? In Indonesia, what I see is, the name of school or college is so pretty damn important. It’s so prestigious. But, wait, you know where you want to go but you don’t know what is your purpose in life. Wait, it’s so confusing. Which one is more important, your prestigious college or your passion? Ha! Some people, they’re blind, they just don’t know. They build a wall in their mind. They’re blind because there is a wall in their mind. Your prestigious college won’t guarantee your bright future. It’s only an illusion. Your passion, you instinct, your luck probably will do.
